History to the present day
Storm Jameson Court was opened in 2010, and was built to a very high specification, with students of the future in mind, as well as conference delegates and short break guests. This high quality residence is named after Margaret Storm Jameson (1891-1986), an alumnus of the University who went on to write more that 45 books.
One of the main criteria was to produce a highly accessible building. Again, this supports the University's accessible aims to offer university education to everyone equally. But it also placed in Leeds a unique building, with 20 accessible bedrooms, which would appeal to any individuals or groups, who normally have to make do with unadapted, standard hotel bedrooms.
In the summer of 2012, the United Kingdom was in the grip of Olympic fever. The London Olympics were the most successful yet, and we are very proud that Storm Jameson Court, and the University of Leeds played an important role in this success...
The Canadian Wheelchair Rugby team held three training camps leading up to the Olympics, being based at Storm Jameson Court for all three, going on to win Silver.
For one month ahead of the Games, athletes and officials of the Chinese Olympic delegation were based at Storm Jameson Court, using the campus as a training camp. The 260 athletes went on to win 18 medals, and were profuse in their praise of Storm Jameson Court, our catering and sports facilities.
